Remembering Phil Carrigan
1944-2018

The BCCS lost a large part of its past when Phil Carrigan passed away on January 29th at the age of 73.

Phil was a Charter Member of the BCCS, being member #42. In the early days of the Society, he was a frequent contributor to the Journal, and was one of the key reasons the BCCS still exists today. He assumed the role of President in 1994, and presided over the Society until he retired in early 2015. He was instrumental in the transition, which included drafting of new By Laws which we have today.

In addition to attending many large regional and local shows, Phil was a regular at the summer ANA conventions and particularly enjoyed hosting the BCCS Annual Meetings each year. Many members only knew Phil from his quarterly President's Message at the front of each issue of the Journal. The photo at right accompanied his President's Message for many years.

At our Annual Meeting in 2015 as shown in the photo below, the BCCS presented Phil with an Award of Appreciation, for all he did for the Society in its first 25 years.

He will be sorely missed by the numismatic community, and especially the BCCS.
